The Private Security Authority, (PSA) was set up in 2006 to oversee many changes in the alarm industry. It is now a legal requirement for any burglar alarm installer to acquire a licence which is issued through the PSA. Installing an alarm without a licence in not advised for both the installer and the customer. Before acquiring a licence the installer must be certified through one of the following bodies. EQA Ireland ltd., Insight. NSAI, Management Systems Certification Ltd, SSAIB or NSAI.The standard is that all burglar alarms systems must adhere to the new European standard EN50131-1 of which a copy of it is held by each company. This replaces to older standard was IS199.
